New! Eyelet Setters

Wow! Look at what’s just arrived in the shops…..New Eyelet Setters from Fiskars. They have a built in spring hammer so Eyelet setting is a snap ……. These tools allow you to quickly and easily set eyelets. No hammer is needed. Approx $15 US. One set contains 1/16 in, 1/8 in and 3/16 in sizes with step by step instructions.

Note: I’m note sure about the longevity of these new tools due to the spring hammer.

To help make your decision here are some comments I found:

1. This is a wonderful set of tools never be with out it

2. I used this twice and the spring part in the middle sprung on me, I found out though that Fiskars recalled them, and contacted them and they took care of me, I use Silent Setter now and love it!

3. "So Easy" - We just tried this product at a scrapbook store. For the price and ease of use-it's wonderful. I own a Click It and do like it, but the Fiskers was much easier to use, especially for a friend of mine with arthritis in her hands. Just be sure to use it on a solid surface with the mat. I thought it was great and will carry one with me in my crop bag.

4. Much too noisy; replaced with the silent setter which is about the same price but so much nicer to use.

**As you can see from these comments there are different opinions…..Some for and some against…might be something to consider when travelling rather than your main eyelet setter tool.

Happy Scrapping!

Scrapbooking Baby’s “Firsts”

Having a child is one of the most important events in your lives and baby’s first year is a busy, ever changing journey of discovery and important milestones.

Create your own scrapbooking album that consists of all your baby’s ‘firsts’.

With lots of pictures to sort through – here’s a small list of ‘firsts’ to give you some ideas for organizing your photos.

sleep/nap
bottle/breast feed
smiles
bath
teeth
sitting up
feeding him/herself
crawling
steps/walking on their own
haircut
Christmas

Give your pages a personal touch by adding some memorabilia, using a pocket envelope, to your layouts - like a lock of hair from their first hair cut.

Decorate your layout with an adorable or cute baby scrapbook paper. Then, embellish your page with some charming baby scrapbook stickers like rattles, booties, bibs, bottles etc .....Or a paint print of your baby's hand or foot and when they’re done display all of your beautiful pages in a lovely baby scrapbook album.

Go on… give it a go. Make yourself a baby scrapbook to keep all those incredible memories. It will become a family keepsake that you’ll treasure forever.

It's hard to believe that my son looked so small and delicate.....Our children grow up much too fast so enjoy every precious moment.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

“In The Pink!”
As you may already be aware October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. We have been made more aware of breast cancer by celebrities, Olivia Newton -John, Kylie Minogue and Anastacia….. who themselves have recovered from breast cancer.

Wear a pink ribbon to raise awareness and support the fight against Breast Cancer.

Here are a few unique ways of helping to promote Breast Cancer awareness.

Porches in Pink
Replace your porch light with a pink light……Iconic buildings and landmarks across the world, including our Sydney Opera House are “In The Pink” this month. Porches in Pink is a community extension of the Estee Lauder Global Illumination for Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign.

Get The Girls Together
The boys will be at a loose end this October when the girls get together for Girls Night In. It’s a great opportunity to celebrate valued friendships whilst raising money for women’s cancers. http://www.girlsnightin.com.au/default.htm

Image Transfer Embellishments

Image-transfers are an exciting way to transfer your favourite graphics, onto many types of craft projects.

Here is just one way for you to experiment with this technique.

Clear Plastic Adhesive Transfer
Products made from clear plastic-adhesive are perfect for transferring images from glossy magazines, photocopies or laser prints (inkjet-printed images will not work with this technique).

Two popular products are packing tape and cold laminate and these are available from department stores and newsagents.

Materials
A toner-based image, or graphic from a glossy magazine
Packing tape or cold laminate
Bone scorer
Water
Scissors

Method
1. Cut the image to size and adhere it, image side down, to the tape or laminate. Using the bone scorer, rub over the back of your image to ensure it is well attached. Trim any remaining tape from the sides of your image.
2. Fill a shallow dish with water. Place the taped piece of paper into the dish so that the entire piece is immersed. Leave it to soak for at least three minutes.
3. Remove your piece from the water and gently rub the paper away from the tape, leaving the ink image.
4. Leave your image to dry with the adhesive side facing upwards.

Note: If the transfer will not properly adhere, try using Vellum adhesive spray, which will not affect the finished image.

If you’re anything like me, you will have a great collection of images to sort through to try this new and exciting technique.

On a more personal note.......It's another glorious day in Sydney and only 3 more days before school resumes. It's been a lovely 2 week break (although we have unfortunately been sick, but on the improve).

Before we know it will be the end of the year and Xmas holidays for 6 weeks. Pretty scary to think that another year has almost flown by.

With Xmas in mind, what project have you got in mind? Maybe a special mini album of your favourite memories........ Just a thought....if so....no time like the present to at least put a few ideas down to get you started.

Happy Scrapping!

Dramatic Scrapbooking Technique

For more dramatic results from your photographs, trying weaving two copies of the same photograph together.

This technique creates a three-dimensional look……. Would look great on a scrapbook for a graduating art student or a scrapbook for a friend who is quite artistic and creative.

This technique might also look good on a child's scrapbook with a kid's art background giving the whole page an abstract look.

To achieve this technique, first you need two copies of the same photo.

  1. On one photograph, draw evenly spaced vertical lines on the back of the picture.Cut along these lines with scissors or an exacto knife.
  2. On the other photograph draw and cut along evenly spaced horizontal lines.
  3. Next, using alternate strips, from photograph one and then photograph two, weave the pieces together.
  4. To preserve the rectangular shape of the photographs, start your weaving in thecenter of the piece and work outwards.

Click Here “For More Amazing Tips Like This & How To Turn Your Passion For Scrapbooking Into A Profit!"

So……Go grab your exacto knife and start creating!
